World Series Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
