The January transfer window proves to be a period of feverish rumour and possible big-money deals. Several prominent players are being linked with transfers out of their current teams. We examine a selection of the key figures who might be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the player in contention, indications are a major move is close. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause active for a short period in early January. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his signature. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to other targets, leaving teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

This England centre-back has continued to impress for Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract set to run out in the close season, January is the club's final opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top clubs, including Manchester City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a winter exit is considered difficult, particularly given the manager's reliance on the player.

Brennan Johnson

The Wales winger has had first-team opportunities limited at Tottenham this term. Despite being the side's top scorer last season, he has started just a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London outfit is open to a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, while his agreement ending in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran Germany goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barça under new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January departure looks highly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a possible destination, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The proven English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of being in the England World Cup. However, securing a deal presents major challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his alleged huge weekly wages make any agreement difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been linked as admirers.

C. Gallagher

The energetic English midfielder drew widespread attention in the summer but remained at Atlético Madrid. Having limited starts in Spain this season, he may be keen to find more minutes ahead of the World Cup. United are strongly linked, and a return to Crystal Palace, where he shone on a temporary deal, is also a option, although wage constraints could prove a problem.

Harvey Elliott

Although starring and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented midfielder has struggled for game time during his loan spell at Villa. The manager has confirmed the temporary transfer won't become permanent. Because of specific rules regarding playing for multiple teams in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next season seems to be the sole viable solution.

K. Yildiz

This exciting Turkey attacker is in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing deal running down, a host of Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are eager to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to retain one of Europe's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but could face stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal priced at around £22 million.
