New England Equal Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five TDs this season
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run from the Brady era as they overcame AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad secured an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the team in 2019
QB Maye threw for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph increases the New England's advantage at the top of the division as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to cap the New York's initial series
But the Patriots responded in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to make it 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields connected with Metchie late in the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the win
